HOW TO FAKE TAN FLAWLESSLY
There is nothing worse than an orange patchy tan, or trying to tan in the sun for hours and hours and not being able to get a tan at all but burn instead. Anybody with me? I have tested and trialled fake tan after fake tan and let me tell you, I think I may have perfected fake tanning flawlessly!
For someone with Lebanese parents I consider myself to be probably the whitest arab ever, I don't even tan! So when I see my cousins getting gorgeous tans (half are naturally tanned anyway) I get anxiety. I also dislike being in the sun, I get cold sores if I stay in the sun for too long and I watch way too many ads on TV regarding skin cancer so for me, fake tanning is the way to go. I have listed the steps I take to getting a fabulous tan below so lets get fake tanning!
PART 1- PREP!
This has to be the most important step of the whole process, when I think of fake tanning I usually do this part anywhere from a day before to an hour before I am about to fake tan.
Step 1- Light exfoliation, I use Skinstitut Glycolic Scrub 14% for this step. Hop in the shower and lightly exfoliate your whole body especially problem areas such as knees, elbows, feet, belly button, under the arms (do not forget this area, a lot of dead skin builds up around this area). We are going to repeat this step again so don't go too crazy just yet!
Step 2- If you laser everywhere but your leg hairs still grow back like mine (ugh) shave now! Make sure you use shaving cream.
Step 3- Exfoliate, NOW you can go crazy. I use the St Tropez Tan Remover Mitt and this is by far the best product I've used for serious exfoliation, spend a few minutes going over your body because you really want a blank canvas for that flawless even tan.
Part 2- Moisturise and Tan!
Right before you start fake tanning there are a few things you are going to want to do so do this step by step.
Step 1- Use coconut oil to moisturise your problem areas. Use it lightly, the tan will still get through it just stops the tan from building up too much over the problem areas. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THIS STEP.
Step 2- Close your face pores. Remember those little sausage looking icies you used to order from primary school? I have one in the freezer and every time I tan I take it out and rub it all over my face to close all the pores. I have used Ice before but I find the ice melts and the moisture creates a patchy looking face (EW) You can use anything super cold just do this step right before you tan your face.
WHAT TANNING PRODUCTS I USE- Now you are up to the fun part, I use 2 tanning products religiously. If I feel like I want a lighter tan I use the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Mousse in Dark, however if I want it a little darker I will apply another layer with the St Tropez Self Tan Dark Bronzing Lotion. This also helps the tan fade a little better than just the Bondi Sands tan. I always apply my tan with the St Tropez Tanning Mitt because it is the best that I have used. I leave the tan on for 3 hours only because I hate lounging around in a robe and not moving around.
Step 3- Start tanning your face! I use my hands and quickly squeeze one pump of mousse all over my face. DO NOT work this into your face it's not moisturiser you do not want this in your pores!!!! Be quick about this step, do not forget to apply around your hairline, on your ears and jawline down to upper neck. Wash your hands now and dry properly.
Step 4- Tan your body, this is the order I go in- Legs, feet, stomach, chest, neck, left side to back, around left shoulder and back, left arm, left hand then the same for the right side then all back at the end (my sisters usually do this section for me).
Step 5- If you would like a darker tan go ahead and blow dry this Bondi Sands layer dry, then repeat this process except the face with the St Tropez tan.
Step 6- Wait 3-6 hours and wash off using just a little bit of soap. Really make sure all of the tan rinses off, stand in the shower until the water is running clear. I find the tan will develop even more after this first shower so make sure you shower first thing the next day to really stop it from accelerating.
Step 7- Pat dry and then moisturise. I use Vitamin E cream because it's so thick and creamy I love it, this also helps prolong the tan.
These are all of the steps I take and my tan always looks great. Obviously after the first few days the tan is going to fade away, this is when I scrub it all off and wait until I feel like fake tanning once again.
